DScar: Diamond car wins innovation award

Cranfield team showcase striking design

Boasting a wheel configuration similar to a bicycle with stabilisers and powered by a three-cylinder Toyota engine with just 68bhp, the Diamond Shaped Car, or DScar, has won the innovation award in the Société des Ingénieurs de l’Automobile’s Styling & Technical competition.

The DScar was designed by a team from Cranfield University working to a brief of ‘The Most Affordable Dream Car’; it had to theoretically cost under £5000, seat three, and be fuel efficient and emissions compliant.DScar would weigh just 500kg and be made largely from mass produced car parts to keep costs low.
