Caddy relives past glory

When the future looks as shaky as GM’s does at the moment, it can be far more fun to look to the past. GM’s Performance Division, in conjunction with Cadillac, has restored this 1954 Series 62 Coupe as a replica of the car in which Keith Andrews and Blu Plemons nearly won the Carrera Panamericana road race back in 1954.

Andrews and Plemons borrowed their coop from a Cadillac dealer, and with a ‘crew’ of three friends almost defeated the very large Lincoln factory team. To recreate the original ‘racer’, GM managed to find a ’54 Coupe within its own inventory to use as a base car.

The Performance Division has no immediate plans for further restoration jobs, but in recent times has brought several GM muscle-cars back to life.
