Alpina B7 Biturbo at Geneva

Alpina launches its heated up 7-series performance car at the Geneva motor show

We're well used to Alpina's work at evo, after running a BMW 5-series based B10 on our Fast Fleet. The company's latest effort is this, the B7 Biturbo.

It's the fourth Alpina version of the Bavarian limo, and uses a 4.4-litre V8 boasting 500bhp and 516lb ft courtesy of twin turbochargers. It's enough to shift the 2040kg saloon to 62mph in 4.7sec and onto an electronically limited 174mph.

The suspension is tweaked to make the B7 a sharper drive than its 7-series cousin, with recalibrated springs that lower the ride height (by 15mm front, 10mm rear) and the addition of Dynamic Damping Control with comfort, normal and sports modes so that the B7 can offer a combination of long-distance cruising and back-road pace, with Alpina claiming the agility of a small sports saloon. Using sports mode also switches the traction control systems into a more playful mode that allows 'noticeably more slip at the driven wheels'. Good news indeed...

Quad exhausts, traditional 20-spoke Alpina alloys and an oh-so-subtle rear spoiler set the B7 apart from the BMW.
