Renaultsport Megane and Clio at Geneva

Renaultsport unveils brand new Megane and updated Clio hot hatches

Renault has unveiled two new cars at Geneva to strengthen its three-pronged attack on the hot hatch class. Sat beside the still fresh Twingo 133 is an updated Renaultsport Clio and a brand new Renaultsport Megane.

The biggest news is the latter. With the outgoing Megane R26 facing quite a fight against the Mk6 Golf GTI and new Focus RS, it's time for Renaultsport to utilise the Megane Coupe and attack back. It gets a honed version of the R26's 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, with a more potent 247bhp on tap. It remains front-wheel drive, with two chassis options - Sport and Cup, similar to the Clio. The Cup version gains a limited-slip diff. It'll be on sale in Autumn, priced around £18K.

Also new is the hot version of the facelifted Clio. Called the Renaultsport 200, it gets recalibrated steering and uprated dampers to make it an even sharper drive, and comes in regular as well as more hardcore (36kg lighter) Cup flavour. It hits the roads in May, with the price expected to be a little above its current £14,995 kick-off point.
