Audi RS3 turned up to 463bhp by Abt Sportline

Just when we thought the new Mercedes-AMG A45 S couldn't be topped, Abt has taken the hot hatch Audi RS3 to 463bhp

As the next generation of hot hatches begin to emerge, the general consensus seems to be that power outputs are becoming a little extreme. The all-new Mercedes-AMG A45 S boasts a frankly ridiculous 415bhp, for example, overtaking Audi’s RS3 as the most powerful hot hatch on sale. Just weeks after the mega Merc’s reveal, however, Abt Sportsline has announced a tuning package for the RS3 that puts it in the shade, by quite some margin.

Thanks to the addition of a new intercooler and a standalone Abt Engine Control Unit, the German tuner has extracted an extra 69bhp and 44lb ft from the RS3’s 2.5-litre turbo 5cyl, for outputs of 463bhp and 398lb ft. If such gains are a bit too much for you, a less expensive ECU-only kit, good for 433bhp and 383lb ft, is also available.

Removal of the factory electronic speed limiter raises top speed from 155 to 177mph with the top-of-the-range kit, and although a new 0-62mph time hasn’t been disclosed, the Abt-tuned RS3 will almost certainly do the sprint in under 4secs, matching the new A45 S at the very least.

Of course, tweaks don’t stop under the bonnet. A custom stainless steel exhaust system with four, larger black chrome tailpipes will soon be on offer, alongside lowering springs, coilover suspension, an anti-roll bar kit and brake upgrades. A variety of wheels ranging in weight, size and design can also be chosen - the 19-inch ER-F option lowers weight of each unit to just 8kg.

Inside, you can also add some more carbonfibre, tweaks to the leather trim, custom Abt puddle lights and more. If you can’t decide exactly what combination of options you’d like, the tuner can also provide you with a package that includes the best of the bunch, to make life a little easier.

Pricing and availability is upon request.
