Porsche-approved online livery design service launched

The service allows customers to design their very own livery for a Porsche of their choosing

You’d be forgiven for thinking wrapping cars was a pastime reserved only for the ‘influencers’ of the world, turning cars shades of chrome you didn’t know existed. However, they can be used for a little more than that, and Porsche has taken advantage of this with its new livery design service.

The Second Skin online configurator allows for the creation of custom livery designs, with pre-designed schemes and standard Porsche-approved colour changes also available for selection. Fancy the Salzburg livery on your 718 Cayman, or perhaps Gulf colours on your 992 911 Carrera? No problem. In order to offer the very best quality product, the brand has collaborated with the best artists, design studios and wrap providers around the globe.

Simon Weiss, the man responsible for the project at Porsche, said: ‘As the livery segment is a very fragmented market, we have created a central port of call with Second Skin to guarantee quality and offer a comprehensive approach to finding a solution.’

Once you’ve created your design on the configurator, Second Skin gives you the option of either driving to one of its certified workshops, or having your car picked up in a closed transporter for the wrap to be applied. As it’s manufacturer-backed, the product is covered under the standard Porsche warranty should anything happen, which is nice.

To demonstrate the capabilities of the service, Porsche turned to Second Skin to design and apply the livery to a Porsche 911 RSR racing at this weekend’s Le Mans. Designed by artist Richard Phillips, the wrap’s complexity demonstrates just what’s possible for prospective customers.

Though currently available only on the Porsche range, the service will be available for a multitude of cars from various manufacturers over time. If you’re really keen to transform your car, you can preregister here so you’re first in line when the service opens next month. Prices start from around €4000 euros or £3600.
