New Ford GT Carbon Edition revealed

Featuring bespoke detailing and a drop in weight, this is the limited-edition GT Carbon Edition

Ford has revealed details of a limited-edition Carbon Edition for the Ford GT. Primarily responding to customers wanting an even more dedicated racing car-like package, the Carbon Edition boasts an 18kg weight saving, bespoke carbonfibre detailing and unique colour trim.

Starting with the already carbon-bodied GT as a base, Ford went to work stripping out the interior cup holders and driver’s-side storage bin, while fitting new matte carbon door sills, air register pods and centre console. Ford has also fitted some new seat trim, and some clear anodized aluminium shift paddles, replacing the usually black items from the standard model.

Outside, yet more carbon is on show on the lower bodywork, A-pillars and carbon wheels. There are also new exposed carbon stripes running the length of the body, highlighted by one of four optional accent colours that also appear on the door mirrors and brake calipers.

The rest of the weight reduction comes from a titanium exhaust system, titanium lug-nuts and a new polycarbonate rear hatch with added ventilation, just like the Le Mans-winning racer. Despite the comprehensive weight saving, comfort and convenience features haven’t been completely dropped, with the infotainment and air conditioning kept in place.

This new model comes just after Ford announced an expanded production run for the GT, adding a further 350 units to the 1000 originally planned. Despite the high price tag, the GT has proven to be incredibly popular, with demand outstripping supply seven-to-one. We suspect this limited edition will have a similar reception.
