What defines an icon? It's something we fathom in evo 263, on sale now!

Like reading the stock market, picking a future automotive icon is near impossible, right? Well, for models that pushed the boundaries, set new precedents, or just offered the right combination of rawer driving attributes, we think that the process might not be quite as opaque as you might think. In evo 264 we take a look at some special performance cars of the recent past to decipher whether they will become future icons, or mere oddities that won’t stand the test of time.

But first we start with one of the year’s most exciting new cars – a successor to a past eCoty winner and one that appeals on nearly every level to evo. It’s the new Porsche Cayman GT4, and its Boxster Spyder roofless cousin. Featuring a naturally aspirated flat-six engine, rather than the standard 718’s controversial flat-four, can the new GT4 live up to its predecessor’s auspicious reputation? We take a first look to begin the process of answering that question.

Also in issue 264, we have our first UK drive of the new Lamborghini Huracán EVO, a model that ostensibly shares much with its predecessors, but for a very new type of electronic control system, called LDVI, that Lamborghini promises will transform its handling characteristics. After impressing on a racetrack earlier this year, its real test can only come on the roads around the UK.
