Volvo unveils updated 2018 S60 and V60 Polestar models

Latest iteration of performance Volvos include carbonfibre additions for 30% increased downforce

Polestar is set to distance itself from Volvo and become a standalone performance division focused on electrification. But the longstanding partnership isn’t resting on its laurels just yet. The latest products are the 2018 model year versions of the S60 and V60 Polestar, released as limited editions with a new carbonfibre aero package.

The aerodynamic enhancements consist of a new front splitter, side sills and a rear spoiler extension, all crafted from carbonfibre. The pack has been developed jointly by Polestar and its motorsport partner Cyan Racing, and Volvo says it increases downforce by 30 per cent.

That should improve grip and stability, with Volvo claiming the new Polestars offer ‘the duality of being at ease in everyday driving as well as providing the driver with further control and feedback on an inspiring stretch of road.’

These components are well-proven, having been extensively tested during Polestar’s recently revealed secret Nurburgring record run. The Polestar S60 used in that run claimed the Nurburgring record for the fastest four-door road-legal car.

Elsewhere, the latest Polestars retain their 362bhp twin-charged four-cylinder engines, along with adjustable Ohlins shock absorbers, six-piston Brembo brake callipers and 371mm discs. Black diamond-cut alloy wheels pair with carbonfibre door mirror caps and a new, Bursting Blue Metallic paint option.

0-62mph times come in at 4.7 seconds for the S60 and 4.8 for the V60, while top speed for both is an electronically limited 155mph.
