Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk – 697bhp monster is coming to the UK

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is UK bound according to Jeep CEO. We should get it in 2018

The world’s most powerful SUV, the 697bhp Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is heading for UK shores. Speaking at the 2017 LA Motor Show, Jeep boss, Mike Manley replied to a question regarding the Trackhawk’s chances of selling in the UK, “yes – it seems like I’ve just confirmed it”. The Trackhawk currently retails in the USA for £64,000, although we imagine it’ll be priced closer to £80k when it lands in UK showrooms.

Under the ‘hood’ lies a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine which delivers an incredible 697bhp. That massive power figure is enough to grant the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk the title of the fastest accelerating SUV ever. In the spirit of friendly trans-Atlantic rivalry, its biggest challenge comes from the 600bhp Bentley Bentayga W12, but the jury’s out on which can truly be called the fastest. That’s because while the Trackhawk reaches 60mph half a second quicker than the Bentayga (3.5 seconds vs 4.0 seconds), the big Brit hits back with a higher top speed – 187mph compared with the Trackhawk’s 180mph.

Regardless of semantics, there’s no denying the Trackhawk produces some impressive numbers. As well as the aforementioned performance figures, it can run the quarter mile in just 11.6 seconds, as well as a 60-0 stopping distance of just 114 feet – courtesy of the largest ever front brakes fitted to a Jeep.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk puts its power to the road through an on-demand four-wheel drive system, mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Launch control is of course standard, as is ‘Selec-Track’ – allowing drivers to adjust the four-wheel drive system, transmission, suspension and steering through Auto, Sport, Track, Snow and Tow modes.

Outwardly the Trackhawk doesn’t look much different than the standard car, and you’d certainly be hard-pressed to tell it from the SRT model. Both cars feature a lowered ride height, while the Trackhawk also gains gloss black headlight surrounds, foglight deletion, a glossy black rear valance with black exhaust tips and subtle ‘Supercharged’ badging.
