New BMW 5 Series teased

Video shows redesigned lights and silhouette of car

BMW has posted a teaser video of the next-gen 5 Series. It shows a dimly lit car, complete with its new look rear-lights, but reveals little about the interior or exterior design.

The new 5 Series will leverage technology taken from the flagship 7 Series, including its innovative 'carbon core'. The car should weigh up to 100kg less than its predecessor when it reaches production.

Expect other interior technology to make its way across too, with the next-gen iDrive system seen in the 7 Series likely to also make its way into the 5 Series. Whether the gesture-sensing technology and touch screen features will also be included remains to be seen.

The 5 Series is still in development, but a finished version of the car should be revealed before the end of the year.

As you can see from the teaser video, the design of the car looks to be an evolution of what's currently on sale, rather than a drastic departure.

Given the fact the video has been released, it's likely the full reveal of the 5 Series will be at the Paris Motor Show later this month.

Power train choices should range from a turbocharged 2-litre four-cylinder petrol, to more powerful turbocharged straight-six diesel and petrol engines.

If you'd like to get an idea of some of the technology that might be appearing in the new 5 Series, why not read our BMW 7 Series review here.
