Singer Vehicle Design presents its latest creations at The Quail

Singer's latest incredible creations make an appearance during Monterey car week

Singer Vehicle Design is returning to “Quail - A Motorsports Gathering” this Friday on the pristine greens of the Quail Lodge & Golf Club.

At least eight, privately-owned Singers are expected to attend the event, giving onlookers the opportunity to bear witness to the diverse scope of customisation and craftsmanship of the highly bespoke 911 renditions.

Quail will be the platform to exhibit two newly completed restorations, both property of one very fortunate owner. These commissioned cars began the transformation process as Porsche 964s, one a Targa, the other a coupe, before they were carefully built to a highly defined customer specification.

The Targa, finished in deep orange, has a distinctive interior, with the leather clad seats having a seven-colour weave pattern stitched into the centres, aptly tagged as Tyler Tartan.

Shoehorned into the Targa is the Californian outfit’s newest engine, an air cooled 4.0-litre flat six. The Ed Pink-built unit offers up 390bhp and 315lb ft of torque, compared to the older 3.8 driven by Richard Meaden in issue 215.

Dickie very much enjoyed his time with the yolk-coloured Singer on British roads; ‘Singer preserves everything about a classic 911 that you want to keep’ he said, adding ‘each car is lavished with thousands of hours of labour and fitted with the finest componentry available’. The result? ‘A car that combines the best of classic and modern to deliver something with timeless qualities and limitless appeal.’

The most interesting, and perhaps lesser-spotted features of the open-top car are the two louvres on the iconic Targa hoop, one fewer than the original 1965 model. Singer founder Rob Dickinson notes it’s something ‘not noticed by many, but noticed by few.’

The coupe takes on a more subtle appearance, coated in gunmetal grey with  tobacco brown Recaro sport seats and matching interior. This is only to be offset by a light blue tacho occupying the centre of the dash, reading up to 11,000rpm.

The coupe houses the aforementioned smaller-capacity 3.8-litre, pushing out 360bhp and 282lb ft of torque.

The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering takes place on Friday, August 19th at 10am, and is hosted by the Quail Lodge & Golf Club.
