A look behind the scenes in McLaren's incredible P1 GTR workshop

A rare glimpse into the world of McLaren's ultra-exclusive car

McLaren has published a set of images which show behind the scenes in its ultra-exclusive P1 GTR workshop. Built especially to produce the GTR, the facility is dedicated entirely to maintaining and running the track-only hypercars.

The image above shows no less than 12 GTRs in the workshop, each one with a starting price of just under £2 million. The familiar green and yellow McLaren P1 GTR prototype car can be seen, alongside a wide range of customer cars each boasting highly unique and customised paint schemes.

One features a similar livery to the iconic FINA F1 GTR longtail, another, a blue prototype colour scheme which is made up of the outlines of multiple race tracks.

The P1 GTR 'Driver Programme' is included with the car and is one of the driving forces behind why McLaren has built this dedicated workshop. Each owner can have McLaren Design Director Frank Stephenson help design a custom livery for their vehicle, while tailor made race suits, helmets and seats are produced.

On top of this McLaren offers time spent with a personal fitness trainer, a driving coach and simulator sessions. Finally, customer driving events in the P1 GTR will be held at race circuits around the world, all of which will be supplied with over 80 tonnes of equipment from the P1 GTR workshop.

Around 40 McLaren P1 GTRs will be produced in total, with only P1 owners being offered the chance to own one. While the P1's production run has finished, the GTR is still being built.

Boasting 986bhp, 660kg of downforce at 150mph and capable of cornering forces in excess of the 2G already possible in the standard P1, it's without doubt one of the most extreme cars McLaren has ever built.
