Mini John Cooper Works convertible official

0-62mph in 6.5 seconds for open top Mini

Mini has unveiled the range-topping John Cooper Works convertible. Fitted with the same 2-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine as that of the hatchback, the JCW has 228bhp and 320Nm of torque.

Weight is up 105kg over the hatch, meaning the 0-62mph time drops by 0.3-seconds. The six speed manual manages the sprint in 6.6 seconds, with the auto doing it in 6.5. Top speed is 150mph.

Mini has opted for model specific suspension settings for the convertible as well as using specific bracing elements for the car to keep its tortional rigidity up. As standard, the car comes on sports suspension with McPherson struts at the front and a multilink rear axle.

The JCW specific exterior styling is carried over to the convertible, albeit with the addition of bigger cooling vents in the front grille and sportier sills. The car also features a union jack design on its fabric roof.

Standard equipment ranges from air-conditioning, parking sensors, John Cooper Works sports seats and 17-inch wheels. 18-inch wheels are available as an option.

The car will be available from April 2016, with prices starting at £26,630 for the manual and £28,205 for the auto.
