An update from Pagani as Huayra hypercar production begins, but Zonda sales continue thanks to another track special

Pagani confirmed at the Geneva motor show that it has 85 confirmed orders for the new Pagani Huayra. And with Huayra production now under way (the first car is going to a well known buyer in Hong Kong), Pagani’s expecting to deliver 25 examples in 2012 and a further 40 cars in 2013.

Demand has been particularly strong in the emerging markets, including China, India, Japan and Taiwan. The more established markets are also doing well and over the last 12 months, Pagani has opened official dealerships in the UK (London), the US (Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco), Chile, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Thailand. The Huayra is priced ex-factory at 849,500 euros, plus taxes, which for the UK gives an on the road price of £850,800.

Pagani still expects the US to be a big market for the Huayra, but its American launch will not be until 2013 as more development work is needed to meet the requirements of the latest US regulations. As a result, the Huayra is set to have the highest US safety rating possible, and will meet California’s strict emission ratings, amongst the toughest in the world.

The European homologation has already been completed and Pagani says the official CO2 rating for the Huayra on the combined cycle is 343g/km, which compares very well to other supercars like the Lamborghini Aventador (398g/km) and the Bugatti Veyron (596g/km), giving Pagani access to markets denied to many other supercar manufacturers, who are increasingly having to look at hybrid options in order to meet new emission requirements.

To help meet this increased demand for the Huayra, Pagani has purchased another industrial unit close to the new facility they had already earmarked for Huayra production. This gives Pagani an additional 40 per cent of floor area and building work on this 8m euro project is due to commence over the coming months on this new production facility.

Once it’s completed in late 2013, the current factory will continue to be Pagani’s creative and R&D centre, while the new facility will house all the Huayra production, as well as the sales offices, aftersales, storage for owner’s cars and a small Pagani museum.

Finally, Pagani’s announced it will be building five more (and very special) Zonda R models in 2012, bringing the total build for this track-only Zonda to fifteen. Details of the revised version are still under wraps but we hope to bring you more details in a few weeks.
