Mercedes SL Shooting Brake

The Mercedes SL has been turned from roadster to shooting brake. The ‘supercar estate’ has seen a minor revival thanks to the Ferrari FF and concepts such as the Aston Martin Rapide-based Bertone Jet 2+2. Stemming from that trend, Studiotorino has revealed its Coupetorino 2013 SL Shooting Brake design.

The Coupetorino project is the work of six students. It began in September 2012 and is the successor to the 2008 project of the same name. Backed by Studiotorino and Steffen Koehl of Global Advance Design Mercedes-Benz, the project gave the students the chance to simulate a real work-study project, where engineering feasibility and costs had to be taken into consideration alongside the design brief. As a result, the end product is a workable, realistic design, which was presented to Mercedes on May 27.

A production plan hasn’t been announced by Mercedes, but the thought of a 530bhp Mercedes SL63 AMG Shooting Brake is an oddly exciting one…
