Mercedes-Benz S600 launched at Detroit motor show

Mercedes' new flagship S600 model has been launched at the Detroit motor show. Details and pictures here

Mercedes has taken the covers off its latest flagship model at this week’s Detroit motor show, the V12 S600 super saloon.

Pushing a mammoth 530hp through the rear-wheels, the six-litre bi-turbo engine coupled with its AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic gearbox, can race the new S600 to 62mph in just 4.6 seconds. Thanks to its use of start/stop technology, the luxury saloon can still average 25.4mpg on a combined run, blowing 264g CO2/km from its quad exhaust pipes.

Ensuring passengers remain comfortable whilst they’re forced back into their seats, the top of the range Mercedes promises unequalled levels of luxury. A smartphone inspired optional touch screen head unit and head-up display, help to simplify settings updates and bring useful journey related information into the driver’s eye line.

Further increasing safety will be standard fitment of Collision Prevention Assist Plus technology, a system that automatically applies the brakes in potential front on collisions. But with performance orientated internally ventilated and perforated disc brakes, stopping power will certainly not be one of the S600’s weak points.

Plus with the standard fitment of Magic Body Control technology and suspension that adjusts to road surfaces immediately ahead, losing control of this high-power Mercedes shouldn’t be of much concern to those behind the wheel.
