Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe revealed

Mercedes has revealed the Coupe and Convertible versions of the recently updated E-Class

Just weeks after revealing the refreshed E-Class saloon, Mercedes has showed the Coupe and Convertible model facelift ahead of the Detroit motor show. Visually, the most apparent update is the switch to single headlight units - moving away from the E-Class’s trademark twin headlight arrangement. This also incorporates new anti-dazzle LED headlights as an option.

A new front bumper gets larger air intakes, with a new grille completing the package. At the rear, a similar rear light treatment to the saloon has been fitted, along with a new rear bumper. Move inside, and you will notice a redesigned centre console the three-tube instrument cluster - with white-backed dials. The Convertible will be fitted with Mercedes’ AIRCAP system as standard, which dramatically reduced wind noise in the cabin with the roof down.

The wide range of petrol and diesel engines offered in the saloon and estate models are available. From launch, there will be two turbocharged petrol engines, the 200 and 250 BlueEfficiency, although the V8 E500 model has been quietly dropped. The diesel line-up includes the four-cylinder 220 and 250 CDI, as well as the six-pot E350.

Both six-speed manual and seven-speed automatic gearboxes will be available, with paddle shift control should you want it. Convertible and Coupe models will be fitted with ‘Agility Control’ as standard – a feature that adds sports suspension settings and selective damping. Mercedes has also confirmed that the new E-Class will come with the new electro-mechanical ‘Direct Steer’ setup.
