Hennessey tunes McLaren 765LT to 1000bhp – more than P1 hypercar

Hennessey has paid some attention to the McLaren 765LT, giving it more power than the million pound P1

US-based Hennessey Performance has revealed a modified example of the McLaren 765LT, making one McLaren’s fastest series-production model even faster with a hefty upgrade in power and performance.

From the factory, a McLaren 765LT’s output from its 4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 is quoted at 754bhp and 590lb ft of torque, enough for a blistering 2.7sec 0-60mph and 205mph top speed, yet Hennessey claims its modifications have yielded a far more serious 1000bhp, good for a 2.1sec 0-60mph time, or so it claims.

Aptly named the ‘HP1000’ upgrade, Hennessey has changed surprisingly little in order to achieve this significant 246bhp bump in output, keeping most of the engine hardware as is, and instead focusing on software and the engine’s breathing. A tune of the factory ECU, less restrictive air filters and a high-flow, stainless steel exhaust system are all that are fitted – which is perhaps more telling of McLaren’s typically conservative factory figures.

John Hennessey, Hennessey Performance founder and CEO, said: ‘The new 765LT is underrated from the factory. We tested it on our in-house dyno and it delivered about 765 HP – at the rear wheels. This means it’s producing closer to 865 bhp in bone stock form.’

Hennessey has priced the upgrade at $24,950USD (£18,000), which might sound like a good deal for such an intensive power boost, if you’re brave enough to operate outside of the factory McLaren warranty.
