Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary Limited Edition

Mazda has released a special edition MX-5 to celebrate the sports car's 25th anniversary. Details and pictures here

The world’s best selling sports car, Mazda’s record breaking MX-5, has just turned 25 years old. With a new model soon to appear, Mazda has chosen to commemorate the occasion with a special limited run and last gasp version of the current car, called the 25th Anniversary Limited Edition MX-5.

Limited to just 1000 units, the 25th Anniversary is based on the current 2-litre Roaster Coupe, meaning it produces 158bhp and completes the 0-62mph sprint in under 8secs. But to set the Limited Edition apart from the standard car it receives a selection of unique exterior and interior features.

These include a unique Soul Red Metallic paint job, contrasted by black door mirrors, A-pillars and 17-inch dark gunmetal alloy wheels. A rear diffuser and chrome exhaust tips are also joined by a retractable electric hardtop, with Limited Edition numbered badging completing the 25th Anniversary’s list of unique additions.

Inside, contrasting red stitching can be found on the heated leather seats, steering wheel, gearknob and handbrake lever. Embossed onto the headrests of the model specific seats are 25th Anniversary logos, whilst hand painted dark red dashboard trim, black roll over covers and alloy pedals carry the contrasting colour scheme of the exterior into the cabin.

Specific to UK models will be a 6.1inch touch screen satnav, with 46 European maps, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, as well as an integrated radio, CD and DVD player that can be split into a 50:50 display to show two sources.

With 900,000 MX-5s having been sold as of February 2011, there’s no doubting the world loves the little Japanese sports car. But it seems us Brits particularly love open top motoring, and as a result a significant 750 of the 1000 cars will be headed to the UK. Ahead of sales the car will be unveiled to the public at June’s Goodwood Festival of Speed between the 26-29 June.
