Lotus Evora GX race car unveiled

Lotus has revealed its new Evora GX, a customer racing car destined to compete in the 2013 GRAND-AM US race series.

Lotus has updated the GTC-specification Evora racing car, allowing it to compete in the GX class of the GRAND-AM Rolex series, which is set to start next year.

To comply with the new 2013 regulations, Lotus has removed the traction control and ABS system, and added a new thicker US-spec roll cage – offsetting the weight difference with carbon fibre doors, engine cover and roof - now weighing in at 1150kg.

The car’s 4.0-litre V6 has been tuned to produce around 440bhp, and 324lb ft of torque, which is channelled through a six-speed sequential gearbox to the rear wheels. Aerodynamic changes include a new front splitter, and the standardised Rolex series rear wing.

Priced at $330,000 (£210,265 at current exchange rates) to US customers, the GX will be built to order in the UK.
