Andy Green's racing Lotus Elise

Land Speed Record holder Green to race Lotus in the Elise Trophy at Snetterton

Andy Green will be racing a Lotus Elise in the Elise Trophy at Snetterton on Sunday June 14. It's not just a jolly for Green as he prepares to smash the existing speed record in the 1000mph Bloodhound SSC, either - the Elise is a blank canvas at the moment with sponsors able to buy advertising space on the car in return for a £250 donation.

The hope is to garner £10,000 for the Bloodhound project, which aims to educate and involve 5-19 year olds and whip up interest in careers in science and technology. Oh, and smash the current speed record by almost 250mph...

As well as racing at Snetterton on June 14, Green will also be leading another record attempt. He will drive the Lotus Elise Trophy safety car that will (hopefully) lead the largest number of Lotus cars on track at any one time. You can buy tickets for the day at www.elisetrophy.com. The double World Land Speed Record holder doesn't possess a competition licence, and is set to undertake driver training before doing the necessary ARDS test at Brands Hatch in time for his race in Norfolk.
