Performance has been improved in many areas, and the car features a full aero package. A front splitter, winglets, barge boards, rear diffuser, floor extensions and a rear wing apparently add a substantial amount of downforce. Lap times are said to be reduced by around four seconds over a 2.2 mile lap, compared to the standard Elise S.

Other modifications include a motorsport specific engine map, an FIA compliant rollcage and other items needed for FIA homologation, forged Team Dynamics alloy wheels fitted with Yokohama Advan Neova tyres and an uprated fully adjustable damper set-up.

The Cup R is eligible for a few racing series, including the 2014 Lotus Cup series, which encompasses the Lotus Cup UK, Lotus Cup Europe, Lotus Cup Italia, Lotus Cup USA, Lotus Cup Japan, Lotus Cup Thailand, Lotus Cup China and Lotus Ladies Cup races.

On sale now, the Elise S Cup R starts from £46,950, or £39,125 without VAT.
