A-Z Supercars: Lamborghini Aventador J

This one-off £1.75million roadster is perhaps the most outrageous Lambo of all

If you thought the Reventón was just a little common, and maybe a little understated, then the Aventdaor J could be just the thing for you. Even for a manufacturer known for its outrageous cars, this is something special.

The ‘J’ refers to Appendix J, the section of the FIA rulebook that deals with motorsport homologation – just as it did 40 years ago for a very special one-off Miura created by celebrated Lamborghini test driver Bob Wallace.

And, just like the legendary Miura Jota, the extraordinary Aventador J is no fragile concept car. It is fully functional – underneath are the mechanicals of a ‘standard’ Aventador, so that means the 690bhp 6.5-litre V12 and seven-speed paddleshift gearbox, though shedding the roof and consequently around 80kg gives an even more formidable power-to-weight ratio of about 470bhp per ton.

Top speed is quoted as in excess of 300kph (186mph), though what it would feel like in the rush of air at that sort of speed, with no windscreen as such, almost defies imagination.

Sadly, it’s very unlikely that we’ll ever find out what it’s like to drive, because the Aventador J is such a collector’s piece that it’s almost certainly destined to be secreted away in some dehumidified bunker. Apparently the buyer heard about the car and coughed up £1.75million without even seeing it…
