Novitec Lamborghini Aventador tops 950bhp

Tuning company Novitec winds the Lamborghini Aventador past 950bhp and into Bugatti Veyron territory

The Lamborghini Aventador is already one of the fastest and most desirable cars on sale, but tuning company Novitec has now introduced a range of upgrade packages to take the car to a whole new level.

Aesthetically it gets more race car-inspired styling, with the company offering a carbonfibre body kit, a splitter, large rear wing and massive diffuser its most prominent additions. To complete the transformation, customers can specify lower springs, adjustable coilover suspension and new alloy wheels up to 21in in size, these also gaining Pirelli P-Zero tyres.

Inside Novitec has revamped the cabin, with leather upholstery, carbonfibre trim and a brand new Revox audio system all part of the bespoke cabin on offer.

But it’s under the bonnet, and the firm’s tinkering with 6.5-litre V12 engine, which deserves the most attention. Entry level performance packages keep the V12 naturally aspirated but boost its power between 712bhp/519lb ft and 738bhp/532lb ft (depending on which level you choose), healthy rises over the standard Aventador’s 690bhp/509lb ft.

The Novitec Bi-Kompressor package tops the range, however. Its raft of engine upgrades – including two superchargers, new injectors, an upgraded fuel pump, modifications to the induction tract and an optimised ECU – take the engine to a faintly ridiculous 956bhp and 672lb ft. It’s enough to whisk the four-wheel-drive supercar from 0-62 in 2.8sec, while it completes 0-124mph in 7.4sec.

By comparison, the hypercar benchmark, the 1000bhp Bugatti Veyron (which is also a few hundred kilos heavier), will hit 62mph in 2.5sec – only 0.3sec quicker than the Novitec Aventador – while by 124mph the Veyron is just one tenth of a second ahead. Novitec has propelled the Aventador into hypercar territory.
