Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO unwrapped for one-make race series

Lamborghini’s in-house motorsport division, Squadra Corse, has revealed the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO with aero upgrades

As its name suggests, the new Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO builds on groundwork done by the Huracan Super Trofeo that’s featured in a Lamborghini single-make series since 2014.

Focusing on the competition racer's aerodynamics, Lamborghini engineers clad the EVO in a new carbon fibre bodykit creating a more slippery shape without sacrificing downforce.

The car’s carbon ensemble borrows a flat floor, front splitter and rear diffuser from its predecessor but the new side fin on the rear deck has increased downforce over the rear axle - yielding greater stability and faster apex speeds in fast corners.

The most notable addition is the roof-mounted air scoop – feeding the 5.2-litre engine with more air, more of the time. Torque is up 3% at all crank speeds too. The roof scoop has replaced the side-mounted intakes cut into the rear quarter panels of the old Trofeo. This has allowed engineers to reprofile the area, creating flatter, grooved plains that facilitate faster airflow, ultimately improving aerodynamic efficiency. The skirt-mounted cover fins have also been enlarged, routing greater volumes of air to the radiators for improved cooling of the 612bhp V10.

The front apron is all-new. The air-intakes span a greater area, while bigger side spoilers have induced a forwrad shift in aerodynamic balance of 3%, permitting faster corner-entry speeds, understeer free. The hexagonal intake etched into the bonnet cleverly guides air into the cabin to boost ventilation and keep the driver cooler. The naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 is mated to a six-speed sequential shifter that drives the rear axle exclusively, unlike the Performante road car which is all-wheel drive.

The new EVO scythed down the straights of Monza with 8% greater aerodynamic efficiency, posting a time of 1.46.3, 1.5sec up on its predecessor.

The car will debut when the one-make series it supports kick off in Europe, Asia and North America in 2018. The Huracan Super Trofeo EVO will set you back €235,000 (plus tax). Owners of the current Super Trofeo can purchase the new carbon-fibre shell, although Lamborghini has yet to announce a price for it.
