New Lamborghini Gallardo LP600 GT3 racing car

Reiter Engineering pulls the wraps off its new 2012 racing car, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP600 GT3

Looking to go racing in 2012? Reiter Engineering has unveiled its updated Lamborghini Gallardo LP600 GT3 car, with a host of updates intended to make it an accomplished endurance racer. The car had a successful 2011 in various racing series, including wins in the ADAC GT Masters and GT3 honours in Brazil, Asia and Spain. Now Hans Reiter wants a reliable 24-hour racing car. Key changes to the Gallardo LP600 include a new gearbox – a Hollinger unit that’s lighter and less complex than before, and provides a more precise shift – and a revised aerodynamic setup, with a bigger splitter and double dive planes at the front of the car. There’s also a pretty whopping rear wing. Further development will take place over the next couple of months, with a new suspension setup to improve mechanical grip (as well as tyre longevity for those long race stints) and an AP Racing brake system with new six-piston calipers and improved cooling at the front, another move to extend parts life during round-the-clock races. As the name suggests, the LP600 retains Reiter’s 592bhp (600PS) tune of Lamborghini’s 5.2-litre V10 engine. That’s a 30bhp improvement on the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera supercar, which hits 60mph in 3.5sec and can top 200mph. The 2012 Gallardo LP600 GT3 hasn’t yet been priced, but 2011’s car weighed in at 288,500 euros excluding VAT. Therefore you’ll need at least £290,000 to purchase the updated car. The 24-hours in Dubai and the Gulf 12-hours in Abu Dhabi will be used to develop the new endurance-minded parts.
