Watch - Lamborghini Aventador SV LP 750-4 sets scorching Nurburgring lap

Lamborghini rarely makes a fuss about Nordschleife lap times. With videos like this, they can let the cars do the talking

When we first saw the 740bhp Lamborghini Aventador SV LP750-4 at the Geneva Motorshow, it looked like it should be something of a wild child. Watching this onboard video of its 6min59.73sec lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife does nothing to dispel that notion.

The lap was apparently completed during testing with Pirelli, the car running on P Zero Corsa tyres. It looks rather as though the rears are going off by the end of the lap with the car becoming more and more willing to oversteer, both on turn-in and under acceleration. There are some heart stopping moments as a result and the driver clearly can’t risk full power in some sections where we’re used to seeing cars flat out. That driver is thought to be Marco Mapelli, a Pirelli test and development driver who tweeted on May 18th ‘That’s why Batman drives a Lamborghini’ with a link to his Instagram account.

The time is just two seconds adrift of a Porsche 918 Spyder (which was rather more understeery on its lap) but even more surprisingly the SV is a whopping 25 seconds clear of a standard Aventador and a stunning 40 seconds clear of the old Murcielago 670-4 SV. The car in the video is obviously a prototype, with a roll cage and a plumbed-in fire extinguisher visible (and audible in the case of the squeaking scaffolding), but we have no reason to believe that the car isn’t otherwise representative, so clearly the new aero additions must be having some sort of effect.

We should be driving the new Lamborghini Aventador SV very soon, but for now you can read all about the details of the Superveloce here.
