All-new Jaguar XJ saloon

Jaguar unveils teasing shot and video of its dramatic all-new XJ sports saloon

This is the first glimpse of the brand new Jaguar XJ. It’s going to be the biggest transformation the model’s seen, with its traditional looks chopped in for a much more dramatic look, which carries on the modern looks of the highly acclaimed Jaguar XF.

There’s just the one shot so far (and a teasing video) but it shows some of the car’s stylistic highlights – a very muscular sculptured bonnet, dramatic taillights and a panoramic glass roof that’s likely to up the feeling of opulence inside by making the new XJ feel more spacious.

The engine range will echo the XF, which is no bad thing. Highlights will be the 5-litre V8, in supercharged 503bhp and normally aspirated 380bhp forms, while the big seller will be the 3-litre twin-turbo diesel from the XF Diesel S. It’s a potent unit, with 271bhp and 443lb ft on tap and performance that doesn’t lag too far behind the M5-rivalling XFR.

On that note, there will be a new XJR too, although this will allegedly use a different engine to the 503bhp XFR.

The new XJ will get its big reveal in London on July 9, with orders starting the same month. There’ll be short and long wheelbase versions available, with deliveries following in early 2010.
