Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2014 update

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe gets an update for 2014, before the all-new model is revealed next year. Details here

Hyundai’s Genesis Coupe sports car is now in its fourth year of existence, but before it’s replaced by an entirely new model, the current car is set to receive both mechanical and visual upgrades to keep it at the sharp end of its competition.

Both the Genesis Coupe’s 274hp 2-litre turbo and 348hp 3.8-litre V6 engines are available as standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox, which now comes with carbon synchromesh rings to improve gear-change feel as well as gearbox durability. The manual also comes as standard with hill-start assist, whilst cars fitted with the 2-litre engine will feature a new intake sound pipe to add more of an induction rumble to the cabin. The optional 8-speed automatic gearbox features paddle-shifters, plus the now standard auto rev-matching system ensures changes are faster and smoother.

Accompanying these mechanical upgrades will be new fog lights, cruise control as standard and the multi-stack gauges (displaying oil temperature, turbo boost for the 2-litre, torque for the V6 and mpg) are now fitted to all spec levels. The most performance orientated R-Spec model now also features seats with even deeper seat bolsters to hold the driver tight during spirited driving.

Other additions to the 2014 car include an improved navigation system, whilst Blue Link equipped models will feature safety features such as Automatic Collision Notification, SOS Emergency Assistance and Enhanced Roadside Assistance as standard. The interior will receive a new cloth scheme and the exterior will be available in five new paint colours.

Thanks to these subtle upgrades the already very popular Hyundai Genesis Coupe looks good to maintain its place as an enthusiast’s favourite, with the base model being available stateside for $26,350 (just over £16,000 as of January 2014). Bad news for the UK however; there is still no sign of Hyundai offering the current Genesis Coupe here anytime soon. Our fingers remained crossed for the next generation.
