Wonder how the Ford Focus RS drift mode works? Here's the answer

Official video shows each drive mode in detail

Ford has published a video detailing each of the new drive modes found in the Focus RS. In it, Ben Collins puts the car through its paces on road and on track, showing how the car's setup differs between each mode.

The last part of the video explores the Focus RS' 'drift mode' which shuffles torque to the rear wheels, in particular the outside rear, to help provoke the car into a drift. The Focus RS uses a GKN engineering twin-clutch four-wheel-drive system that utilises a pair of clutch packs to control power distribution between the front and rear axles as well as the individual rear wheels. You can read about it in detail in our Focus RS preview here.

Four drive modes are available on the Focus RS. The first mode, normal, sets the AWD system, dampers, steering, engine, ESC and exhaust to the same normal settings. Sport mode makes the four-wheel-drive system more aggressive, changes the steering, engine response and exhaust note but keeps the dampers and ESC in normal.

Track mode switches everything up to sport settings and beyond that, you have the car's drift mode. This mode softens the dampers and relaxes the steering, but primes the AWD system to shuffle torque to help the car slide.

The Ford Focus RS starts at £28,940 and is on sale now, with first deliveries due later in 2016.
