350bhp Mountuned Ford Focus RS500 hot hatchback on the way in limited numbers

The Ford RS500 is back. The iconic name was made famous by the colossally winged Sierra of the 1980s, and will now be emblazoned across the back of a Focus RS hot hatch. If you’re expecting a full-on RS500 reincarnation, you may be disappointed – the hotter Focus is set to get a Mountune tuning pack to take its 2.5-litre turbo five engine to 350bhp (from 301bhp), the kind of power gains rival tuners such as GGR (evo review here) have been achieving for many months now.

Click here to see the new Ford Focus RS500 on video Front-wheel drive will remain, while much of the tweaking is expected to be cosmetic – matte black paint and black wheels, with contrasting red brake calipers, will turn the Focus RS into something of a Batmobile in the hot hatch class. It’ll be a limited edition with – you guessed it – 500 units produced. 101 will make it to the UK, with a price tag in the region of £30,000 expected. We’ll know more for certain when the RS500 is revealed in full next Wednesday, March 31.
