Ford Fiesta: Geneva: New Fiesta

Is that a concept? No, it's the new Fiesta

We've seen Ford's Verve concept car, a low-slung, wedgy three-door with a giant trapezoidal air intake and a startling metallic magenta paint finish. So seeing a five-door join the three-door at Geneva didn't seem like big news. Except that they weren't Verves, they were the new Fiestas. It's rare for a daring-looking concept car to make production with so few changes, the original Audi TT being one other example. Even the Verve's interior, with its particularly intuitive controls on the centre console, has survived largely intact. The main change is a roofline raised enough to add an inch of headroom. Even that magenta paint will be available, a shade achieved by using a tinted clearcoat. The new Fiesta has about the same road footprint as the old one but weighs less. The most economical Econetic diesel version will emit less than 100g/km of CO2, but there's no confirmation yet of a new Fiesta ST even though one will surely arrive at some stage.
