Mercedes AMG GT vs Porsche 911 and rivals - 5 AMG GT rivals: BMW M6

You might not consider the BMW as a direct rival to the AMG GT, but the fact of the matter is it’s a 552bhp two-door sports car worth over £90,000. Its performance figures and pricing therefore place it directly alongside the Merc, with buyers swayed by German badge snobbery especially likely to consider this as a direct rival.

It’s amongst the most comfortable on this list too, thanks in part to being based on the 6-series, meaning it’s not an out-and-out sports car from the off. But with a 4.1sec 0-62 dash thanks to a twin-turbod 4.4-litre V8, the two-door coupe is incredibly capable as a cruiser or serious point-to-point weapon.

 Where the Beemer loses ground is all to do with its hefty 1850kg kerbweight – you can really sense the mass when pushing. The transition from under- to oversteer is sharp, and handling is therefore not so confidence inspiring when driving at ten tenths. The M6 is therefore more comfortable being driven at eight tenths with the electronic stability systems left on, ensuring it'll always lose out to properly honed sports cars.
