BMW X5M and X6M get a moody Black Fire makeover

Special edition model tweaks to the BMW X5M and X6M are largely cosmetic and not for the UK

The current trend within the car industry would seem to indicate that to rejuvenate a car’s model line-up, you simply need to launch a ‘Black’ edition model. That’s exactly what BMW has done in the case of the X5M and X6M, with the launch of the ‘powerful, exciting and exclusive’ Black Fire editions. Neither special edition is destined for the UK market but they do show the performance SUVs in suitably mean and moody light.

As the name might suggest, both cars are decked out in black all over, which admittedly goes very well with the menacing aesthetic of even the standard X5M and X6M cars.

On the outside, Sapphire Black Metallic paint pairs with other black details – 21-inch forged M alloy wheels, and a unique black M double kidney grille, with black bars.

Inside, some red accents add the fire to this Black Fire edition. Fully-electric M sports seats are finished in Black Merino leather, with Mugello red accents. The red accents continue on the centre console and lower part of the dash. The rest of the dash is finished in piano black, with a less-than-discreet Black Fire logo on the passenger side.

An M leather steering wheel is fitted as standard, but buyers can spec up to the M Performance Alcantara steering wheel at no extra charge.

Under the skin, there have been no mechanical tweaks to either the X5M or the X6M. That means both cars still share the same beastly twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine, pumping out an incredible 567bhp and 553lb ft of torque.
