BMW M3 Tornado

Potent BMW tuner G-Power turns its hand to the BMW's mighty M3 Coupe

We’ve been aware of G-Power’s BMW tweaks for a while now. Its two most recent efforts, the M6 Hurricane and M5 Hurricane, have come with headline grabbing 225mph+ top speeds.

And now it’s the turn of our favourite M-car, the BMW M3 Coupe, for some G-Power tweakery.

Compared to its bigger brothers, though, the M3 Tornado gets more subtle modifications. The 4-litre V8’s power is hiked from 414bhp to 493bhp, a rise of about 20 per cent, while torque climbs by a similar proportion from 295lb ft to 354lb ft.

The extra poke comes courtesy of a tailor-made ASA supercharger with a 0.3 bar boost, as well as a new intercooler and a performance exhaust system. By comparison, the M5 and M6 Hurricanes gained whacking great twin-superchargers that added an extra 240bhp and 207lb ft of torque. ASA ‘chargers are proven technology, though, taking pride of place in Alpina’s cars including the B6 GT3 racer that completed the Nürburgring 24 hours.

As a result of its saner tweaks, the M3 Tornado won’t be challenging the 231mph G-Power M6’s ‘fastest ever BMW’ title. The new car’s top speed is described as 199mph+. That still indicates a 50mph rise over the stock M3’s limited 155mph maximum, however, and the speedometer does go up to 224mph…

As well as the extra power and speed, there are suspension upgrades – height-adjustable coil-over at each corner, with nine settings – and new 20in Silverstone alloys wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport rubber. There’s a new four-pipe muffler made from stainless steel at the back, with a 15kg-lighter titanium version an option.

There’s no word on cost yet, but around £100K would be a good guess if you want to get an M3 Tornado across here. Head to G-Power’s website if you’d like to know more.
