Bugatti Veyron speed record: behind the scenes video

evo's behind the scenes video as the Bugatti Veyron Vitesse is officially crowned the world's fastest roadster

The Bugatti Veyron has a new speed record to its name, and evo was present at Ehra-Lessien to witness it. Volkswagen’s huge high-speed bowl once again hosted a big budget onslaught at the record books, with official verification of the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse top speed the target. The Vitesse, don’t forget, is an open-top. So while previous Veyron record attempts – including the 268mph of the Super Sport that is currently in question – have seen a coupe reach its V-max, this time it was the world’s fastest convertible title Bugatti wanted to clutch. With 1183bhp and 1106lb ft produced by its quad-turbo 8-litre W16 engine, the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse has enough in its locker for a claimed 2.6sec 0-62 time and 255mph top speed. But how close to these figures can it really get? Harry Metcalfe was there to witness a black and orange speed record car aiming for the headlines. The results are in the video above, and you can read the full Veyron Vitesse speed record story here.
