Entry-level Audi TT revealed

Audi aims for the Peugeot RCZ and Mini Coupe with its new TT 1.8 TFSI Sport

Audi has unveiled a new entry-level TT coupe. The TT 1.8 TFSI Sport’s price is little over half that of the range-topping TT RS S tronic, and helps fight the TT’s corner against rival newcomers such as the Peugeot RCZ and Mini Coupe. A similar version of the previous-generation TT was one of our favourites, too. Its engine is the 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol unit that has previously been offered in the TT Roadster, with 158bhp and 184lb ft of torque, the latter served up from a lowly 1500rpm. It’s enough to whisk the TT to 62mph in 7.2sec (or 7.1sec if you forgo the standard six-speed manual gearbox and select the optional seven-speed S tronic auto) and onto a 140mph top speed. Fuel economy is a combined 44.1mpg. The £24,070 1.8 TFSI Sport that now kicks off the TT range boasts 17in alloy wheels, climate control, leather and Alcantara upholstery and a CD/MP3/iPod audio system. An extra £1990 upgrades you to S line trim and its 18in alloys, lowered sports suspension, shorter-shifting gearbox and LED running lights. The seven-speed S tronic transmission is a £1480 extra.
