Aston Martin to be Red Bull Racing's title sponsor

Building on its current relationship, Aston Martin is also strengthening its technical partnership on the racetrack and the road

Aston Martin has announced it will be stepping up as title sponsor and key technical partner to create ‘Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’ from next year.

Aston Martin’s technical involvement with Red Bull Racing started in 2016 with a partnership in the development of the Valkyrie hypercar, but the Gaydon-based manufacturer has now announced a closer relationship with the championship winning F1 team resulting in a new advanced performance centre and future involvement in powertrain development.

Aston Martin President and CEO, Andy Palmer, said: “Title partnership is the next logical step for our Innovation Partnership with Red Bull Racing. We are enjoying the global brand awareness that a revitalized Formula One provides. The power unit discussions are of interest to us but only if the circumstances are right. We are not about to enter an engine war with no restrictions in cost or dynamometer hours but we believe that if the FIA can create the right environment we would be interested in getting involved.”

The new tie-up should yield results on the racetrack, with Aston Martin possibly entering F1 powertrain development from 2021 after being asked by the FIA to join future powertrain discussions. Aston Martin will also be opening a new technical development centre at Red Bull’s Milton Keynes HQ, housing a second dedicated design centre and engineering staff who will work on future Aston Martin road cars.

Aside from providing sponsorship, this extended partnership between Aston Martin and Red Bull could yield a fascinating generation of Aston Martin road cars beyond the Valkyrie.
