Aston Martin's DB11 boulevard cruiser to hit showrooms next year

Aston Martin’s recent product renaissance is set to continue as it puts the finishing touches on the upcoming DB11 Volante. As with previous soft-top Astons, the DB11 Volante will be closely related to its coupe sibling, sharing the same chassis, drivetrain and overall styling.

Seen here testing on the Nurburgring in Germany, the Volante appears to mirror the coupe’s sleek look quite closely, something made easier by the hardtop's visually separated body and roof. Featuring a smoother acoustic hood compared to the previous car, the DB11 will likely build on the Gran Tourer aspirations of the coupe whilst giving drivers better access to the glorious V12 rumble.

An unfortunate side effect the loss of a fixed roof, the DB11 will lose some of the aerodynamic features from the coupe like the ‘virtual rear wing’, but given its GT aspirations, the effects are not likely to be felt by most owners.

Unlike previous DB Volantes, this time Aston Martin is expected to also offer a new 4.0-litre AMG-sourced V8 that will also power the smaller V8 Vantage. The downsized option will also be available with the coupe and will not only lower the base price, but may also improve handling thanks to a reduction of weight under the enormous clamshell bonnet.

With Aston confirming – via a handy sticker on the side of the spied prototype – the DB11 Volante’s release in the spring of next year, we still have a bit of a wait before we can get our hands on one.
