Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio – MPG and running costs

Don’t expect the Quadrifoglio to be cheap to run, but the expense is almost certainly worth it

Evo rating

  • Awesomely fast, amazingly approachable, full of charisma
  • Interior not a match for its rivals, reputation for flaky reliability

Naturally, a 500bhp+ supersaloon is rarely cheap to run, and it would be unrealistic to expect huge mpg figures and minimal fuel bills. Alfa claims the Quadrifoglio will achieve 34.4mpg on the NEDC combined cycle, but we averaged low 20s during a combination of motorway and B-road driving in pre-2024 cars. In Advanced Efficiency mode, the engine does have a cylinder deactivation function to save fuel, and the transmission a ‘sailing’ function, which are bound to help somewhat.

Another expenditure to take into account is tyres. The Giulia is fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, 245/35 19s at the front and 285/30 19s at the rear. Expect to pay more than £255 and £290 per tyre, respectively.

Ordinarily with a powerful rear-drive saloon, you’d expect the back tyres to wear faster than the fronts. The front tyres fitted to the Giulia test cars that we’ve had access to had a wear rating of 60 (a more conventional performance tyre would have a rating of 300, and an ’eco’ tyre of about 400). Consequently, driving on track can rapidly wear down the front tyres.
