Alfa Romeo 149 'Mule'

As a successor to the 147, Alfa Romeo will release the brand-new 149 in spring 2009

We have snapped a mule for the car consisting of the front of the new Alfa 149 and the rest of the current Fiat Bravo. The Golf-competitor is pointing right at the hearts of the typical Alfisti, statistically aged between 27 and 40.

With an overall-length of 4.30 metres, the c-segment model comes very close to the former Alfa 156, but the 149, which will be available in five-door guise only, is actually based on the platform of the Fiat Bravo. Power will come from turbocharged petrol engines delivering between 120 and 265 bhp with a V6 unit for the range-topping GTA. Like the Junior, the new 149 will receive a six-speed manual gearbox with an automatic being available as an option for some engines. Prices are said to begin at around 20,000 Euros.
